I love this Doctor

Q: Doctor,  I've heard that  cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it...  don't waste them on exercise.
    Everything wears out  eventually.  Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer;
that's like saying you can extend  the life of your car by driving it faster.
Want to live longer?  Take a  nap.

Q: Should  I cut  down on meat and  eat more fruits and  vegetables?
A: You  must grasp  logistical efficiencies.  What does a cow eat?   Hay and corn.
And what are these?  Vegetables.  So a steak  is nothing more  than an efficient
mechanism of  delivering vegetables to your  system..   Need grain?   Eat  chicken.
Beef is also a good source  of field grass  (green leafy vegetable).
And a pork chop can  give you  100% of your recommended daily allowance of  vegetable
    products.

Q: Should  I reduce my  alcohol intake?
A:  No,  not at all.  Wine is made from  fruit.  Brandy is  distilled wine,
that means they take the water out of  the fruity bit so you  get even more
of the goodness that  way.   Beer is also made out  of grain.  Bottoms   up!

Q: How  can I calculate my body/fat   ratio?
A: Well,  if you have a body and you have  fat, your ratio is one  to one.
If you have two bodies, your  ratio is two to  one, etc.

Q: What  are some of  the advantages of participating in a regular  exercise  program?
A: Can't  think of a single one, sorry.  My  philosophy is: No  Pain...Good!

Q:  Aren't  fried  foods bad for you?
A:  YOU'RE  NOT  LISTENING!!! .....  Foods are fried these days in  vegetable oil.
In fact,  they're permeated in it.  How could  getting more  vegetables be bad for  you?

Q:  Will  sit-ups  help prevent me from getting a little soft  around  the middle?
A: Definitely  not! When  you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger..
You  should only be  doing sit-ups if you want a bigger   stomach.

Q:  Is   chocolate bad for me?
A:  Are   you crazy? HELLO   Cocoa  beans ! Another vegetable!!!
It's the best feel-good   food around!

Q:  Is   swimming good for your figure?
A:  If   swimming is good for  your figure,  explain whales to  me.

Q:  Is getting   in-shape important for my   lifestyle?
A:  Hey!  'Round' is  a shape!

Well,   I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may  have had about  food  and diets.

And  remember:
'Life should  NOT  be a journey to the grave with the intention of  arriving  safely in an attractive and well preserved  body, but rather  to skid in sideways -
Chardonnay in one  hand - chocolate in  the other - body thoroughly used up,  totally worn out and screaming 'WOO  HOO, What a  Ride'

AND.....

For  those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final  word on nutrition and health.
It's a relief to know the  truth after all those conflicting nutritional  studies.

1. The Japanese eat  very little fat and suffer  fewer heart attacks than  Americans.

2. The Mexicans  eat a lot of  fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than  Americans.

3. The Chinese  drink very little  red wine and  suffer fewer heart attacks than  Americans.

4. The  Italians drink a lot of red  wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than  Americans.

5. The Germans  drink a lot of beers and eat lots of  sausages and fats  and suffer fewer heart attacks than   Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like. Speaking  English is apparently what kills  you.

'Today is a gift, that is why it is called   The Present.'

Hair Loss Also called: Alopecia

Photograph of a senior man

Did you know that you lose up to 100 hairs from your scalp every day? That's normal, and in most people, those hairs grow back. But many men -- and some women -- lose hair as they grow older. You can also lose your hair if you have certain diseases, such as thyroid problems, diabetes or lupus. If you take certain medicines or have chemotherapy for cancer, you may also lose your hair. Other causes are stress, a low protein diet, a family history or poor nutrition.
Treatment for hair loss depends on the cause. In some cases, treating the underlying cause will correct the problem. Other treatments include medicines and hair restoration.

Hair Problems

Did you know that the average person has 5 million hairs? Hair grows all over your body except on your lips, palms and the soles of your feet. It takes about a month for healthy hair to grow half an inch. Most hairs grow for up to six years and then fall out. New hairs grow in their place.
Hair helps keep you warm. It also protects your eyes, ears and nose from small particles in the air. Common problem with the hair and scalp include hair loss, infections, and flaking.

Teen Sexual Health

Photograph of a stethoscope with the shadows of two women in the background

As a teenager, you go through many physical, mental, emotional, and social changes. The biggest change is puberty, the process of becoming sexually mature. It usually happens between ages 10 and 14 for girls and ages 12 and 16 for boys. As your body changes, you may have questions about sexual health.

Photograph of two female teens and one male teen
During this time, you start to develop your own unique personality and opinions. Some changes that you might notice include
  • Increased independence from your parents
  • More concerns about body image and clothes
  • More influence from peers
  • Greater ability to sense right and wrong

All of these changes can sometimes seem overwhelming. Some sadness or moodiness can be normal. But feeling very sad, hopeless, or worthless could be warning signs of a mental health problem. If you need help, talk to your parents, school counselor, or health care provider.
Puberty is the time in life when a boy or girl becomes sexually mature. It is a physical change that usually happens between ages 10 and 14 for girls and ages 12 and 16 for boys. Puberty affects boys and girls differently.
In girls:
  • The first sign of puberty is usually breast development.
  • Other signs are the growth of hair in the pubic area and armpits, and acne.
  • Menstruation (or a period) usually happens last.
In boys:
  • Puberty usually begins with the testicles and penis getting bigger.
  • Then hair grows in the pubic area and armpits.
  • Muscles grow, the voice deepens, and acne and facial hair develop as puberty continues.
Both boys and girls also usually have a growth spurt (a rapid increase in height) that lasts for about 2 or 3 years. This brings them closer to their adult height, which they reach after puberty.

Going Bananas natural remedy for many ills

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas.  He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain.  Read on:

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again..

                                Bananas contain three
natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

                                Research has proven that
just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

                                But energy isn't the only
way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

                                Depression: According to a
recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat
a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

                                Anemia : High in iron,
bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

                                Blood Pressure: This unique
tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

                                Brain Power: 200 students at
a Twickenham (Middlesex) school ( England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

                                Constipation: High in fiber,
including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

                                Hangovers: One of the
quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

                               Heartburn: Bananas have a
natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

                                Morning Sickness: Snacking
on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness

                                Mosquito bites: Before
reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation. Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

                                Overweight and at work?
Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like
chocolate and chips... Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady..

                                Ulcers: The banana is used
as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

                                Temperature control: Many
other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of
expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

                                Seasonal Affective Disorder
(SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

                                Smoking &Tobacco Use:
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

                                Stress: Potassium is a vital
mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

                                Strokes: According to
research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

                                Warts: Those keen on natural
alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a
natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate , three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

PASS IT ON TO YOUR FRIENDS
PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one
here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit !!!
